2006 50th Anniversary Event

Americana Manhasset Celebrates 50 Years!

On Wednesday, March 15, 2006 Americana Manhasset was joined by Vanity Fair magazine and internationally acclaimed architect, Peter Marino, to host the opening cocktail party of Distinctly Modern, a mid-century design exhibit at Americana Manhasset, which ran through April 30th.

At the festivities, waiters were clad in fifties attire, and hors d’oeuvres, drinks and music were indicative of the era. Vanity Fair publisher, Alan Katz, was on hand to promote their distribution of Americana Manhasset’s 2006 Spring Fashion Book. The Book, shot and designed by the renowned Laspata DeCaro, was photographed at two famous mid century Palm Springs houses.

The Distinctly Modern exhibit showcased both vintage and mid-century inspired goods, including books, furniture, artwork, cars and motorcycles. Modern furnishings retailer Design Within Reach featured products by Herman Miller for the Home. The tables, benches and storage units supported antique and collectable books provided by John McWhinnie @ Glenn Horowitz Booksellers. Flanking those items were two Triumph Motorcycles and parked outside the exhibit was a changing selection of Bentley automobiles on loan from Bentley Long Island.
