Off-White Spring 2019 - Runway Review
September 27, 2018

Off-White might just be the brand to give athleisure a good name. For his Spring 2019 show, Virgil Abloh collaborated with eight elite Olympic athletes to walk alongside the bold-faced stars of fashion, Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid. And while the evening was a big win for women's sports, down to the runway painted like a combination of running track and concrete street, that this new collection, called Track and Field, that germinated from his work with Serena Williams. As Abloh put it: "Performance, not fashion, mode."
The passion for ballet and dance designers have been having this season seemed, by comparison, second nature for Abloh. The concept of a pale blue stretch dress with diagonally sliced tulle skirt looked fabulous -- paired with a Nike co-designed Waffle Race sneaker that had a decidedly hand-sewn look. Mixed in with the flouncy white dresses and tailoring were collaged running leggings and even a top made of cut-up Nike socks, as modeled by Kaia Gerber (the air of Margiela was more than evident to some).
