Acne Studios Spring 2017 - Runway Review
October 1, 2016
Loose, airy and draped, those keywords ruled the runway at Acne Studios, where there was a Birkenstock-loving, granola-friendly earthiness to the collection. Perhaps a response to the global refugee crisis, creative director Jonny Johansson went wild with piecing gauzy, patterned scarves into bohemian caftans, tunics, judo pants and jumpsuits.
The enveloping volumes swept up in paisley prints literally drowned the bespectacled models with their giant sleeves. Rich textiles from Johansson’s native Sweden found their way into the geometric motifs of oversize patchwork sweaters all the more chunky and seemingly cut from byzantine rugs. The extreme proportions were finished with utilitarian trimmings and accessories that included embellished lace-up slippers and, yes, paisley-printed shoulder bags.
