Alice + Olivia Fall 2019 - Runway Review
February 11, 2019
One would be forgiven for missing Stacey Bendet at her Alice + Olivia presentation Tuesday afternoon. After all, the dark and dramatic Angel Orensanz Center was shrouded in nearly all black as a theatrical backdrop for yet another highly Instagrammable presentation. Fairy tale, romance and magic were the key words Bendet used to describe this "Fantasia" collection, with the garments lowered a notch in their embellishment and vibrancy in favor of turning up the sex appeal. Witness the slip dress with thigh-high slit; a deep V-neck wrap minidresses and, of course, a cropped tube top. Sexy silhouettes, indeed!
That's not to say Alice + Olivia fans won't find their favorite beaded and printed pieces. There they were, all on display: gowns with their psychedelic butterfly motif (a print splashed liberally throughout the collection) and a rainbow skirt made entirely of feathers. Bendet's favorite signature statement tees were also expanded, perhaps in a nod to the #MeToo movement, with such phrases as "Go Love Yourself" and "Strong Female Protagonist." With each season, Bendet continues to remind is that it's her world and we're just (gleefully) living in it.
