Altuzarra Spring 2017 - Runway Review
September 12, 2016
One word: happy. Joseph Altuzarra’s kaleidoscope of lemons, cherries, pineapples and berries had guests at his spring show wanting to get up and dance! And rightly so! The energy and enthusiasm of the collection came across as loud and clear as images of Carmen Miranda in her heyday: Crazy! Fun! Youthful!
Altuzarra was inspired, funnily enough, by David Lynch’s 1990 Film “Wild At Heart,” and, specifically it’s “weird atmosphere.” (Translation: none of the dark stuff). The show was nothing if not comprehensive: cherry-printed ruffled skirts, gingham shirt dresses, come-hither bralettes and oodles of python. His use of the snakeskin in such classic items as a blazer and trench coat were spot-on, as were his classic-on-classic renditions of shirt dresses and cropped jackets in utilitarian khaki and trimmed in leather. Models sported black eel-skin sandals with ankle ties (already a huge trend for fall, no doubt continuing into spring). For evenings in Capri, Mykonos or the Maldives, an Altuzarra tiered organza gown is the way to go. Just don’t forget to opt for the embellished emoji fruits.
