Celine Fall 2020 - Runway Review
March 1, 2020

The bourgeois codes of the house of Celine seem to be emanating itself into the psyche of Hedi Slimane. The once wild child of French fashion presented a thoroughly tame and relaxed collection for Celine that featured a refined homage to the 1970's across the 111-look show. Classic Slimane silhouettes were evident throughout the salable show: sequined dresses with bow collars; culottes that fluttered gently; oversize black floppy hats and the inevitable brown corduroy pants. Statement pieces came in the form of gold-encrusted tunics worn over slim pants; velvet maxi skirts embroidered with gold and silver leaves and a trip of simple evening dresses that sparkled. The rock-star glamour continued with large fur coats that never overwhelmed; rather, the unisex aesthetic was grounded by Slimane showcasing, on both genders, the return of the Sulky handbag straight from the archive.
