Erdem Spring 2017 - Runway Review
September 19, 2016
Showcased on a boardwalk show set, Erdem Moralioglu’s spring collection featured as eccentric an inspiration as eccentric inspirations get: a female spy conspiring to sell the crown jewels whose ship—and with it, her wardrobe—had sunken while en route. That period quality to the garments lent themselves beautifully—and tragically—for what was a mini-series parade of exquisite dresses.
Hyper-femininity as its best, everything about this ultra-detailed collection was gorgeous: tiered ruffles winding about the skirts; detached sleeves sliding off shoulders and fabrics as diverse as the imagination: colored lace, jacquards, floral brocades. Lace, thy name is Erdem—and the results coupled a feminine floatiness with rich sensibility that made for a hauntingly beautiful portrait.
