Fendi Spring 2019 - Runway Review
September 20, 2018

Sport and utility fused for a fuss-free Fendi show for Spring 2019 -- one that creative director Karl Lagerfeld summed up as "GP -- giant pockets." Highly functional, this was not Ikea meets Fendi; rather, the garments and their complementary accessories served to be real pieces that real women can wear (to work). Chic yet polished, approachable, yet tailored. Call it pocket persuasion.
Look one said it all: a clear plastic raincoat trimmed in brown leather, with two huge pockets, atop a white, ruffled under layer. As the models cascaded out, these "GP's" would take the place of more traditional accentuating elements: the bodice of a blouse, the hips of a zip-front leather dress, not to mention on expected places on jackets, coats and cargo pants. This being Fendi, there was no shortage of flair. Once classic jackets and prim skirts boasted shoulder flanges, architectural capelets, corsetry and neoprene looks. Adding to all the allure of these pieces were the addition of embroidered evening and breezy boho dresses that further enhanced the collection.
