Giorgio Armani Fall 2016 - Runway Review
March 1, 2016
The major theme at the Armani fall show was how to showcase velvet for day. Armani used the soft, textural material as his blank page upon which his bohemian rhapsody adventure began. The looks literally unfolded, with hidden chiffon pleats in the sides of dark velvet trousers that gently open and close like an accordion. Armani cut it in full leg styles cropped above the ankles and as sporty track pants with athletic ribbing pared back to tweedy pastel or greige jackets. Among the other hidden delights: contrasting floral stripes inside trouser legs that match the fabric of the jackets. Hemlines vary from just above booties to tapered at the ankle, cuffed and not, sometimes gathered like athletic pants. Jackets were short and swingy, sculptured with subtle peplums or long blousons. Not groundbreaking or boundary pushing, but chic enough and on trend.
