Giorgio Armani Spring 2017 - Runway Review
September 23, 2016
In one word: Charmani. His purpose, Armani wrote in his program notes, was to deliver a “sense of elegance and sensuality, but also of magic and femininity…finding a new balance between discipline and charm.” And charm he did.
The spring collection Armani delivered radiated a cozy chic that felt fresh and alluring. He worked primarily in his signature watery prints in a palette of blues, purples and grays. Floaty, deconstructed jackets worn atop soft shorts opened the show; the loose but controlled pieces equated to an ethereal visage that Armani only further heightened for spring.
Armani’s straightforward approach to elegant dressing was on full display. Long fringe on organza shorts and a jacket crafted from ombréd ribbon strips were just two examples of how he delivered his signature shapes in moody prints, combining textures and patterns while incorporating exotic elements that hinted at far-off lands. For evening, crystal and sequined embroideries were lavished liberally on dresses that also featured big, puffed sleeves.
