Miu Miu Spring 2017 - Runway Review
October 5, 2016
Combining the intellectual with the fun has proven to be a winning combination at Miu Miu. For spring, a retro mood filled the collection that was at once multi-colored and oh-so-refreshing.
The brand took its guests for a dip in a 1940s swimming pool with models cast as beach bound beauties. The playful lineup of 53 looks were a much-needed break from the current global state—and it played beautifully into Prada’s own childhood: the optimistic culture of the ’60s meets and early-’70s prints. Flowery swimming caps in black, red, yellow and white complemented hand-smocked baby dresses transformed into cropped blouses and ’40s-print dresses complete with back ties.
Fitted tops with frilly hems and feminine Peter Pan collars evoked the post-World War II era, as did patterned fabric scarves worn tied around the head. Paired with beach slides or wedge sandals that featured shells and starfish embossing, the overall aesthetic was pure Italian coastal chic by way of sexy ’50s pinup girls.
