Rosie Assoulin Fall 2019 - Runway Review
February 12, 2019

Rosie Assoulin is not one to shy away from making a sartorial statement. Her show-stopping, sculptural gowns are big, bold and, most importantly, memorable. Look beyond all the glitz and there are plenty of comfort pieces to be had: cozy sweaters, crisp shirtdresses (a favorite!), signature wide-leg trousers and smart plaid wool suits trimmed in foiled strips of silver. Despite all the hoopla, things were decidedly low key for fall.
A focus on daywear was paramount, said Assoulin -- although what exactly constitutes "day" from "night" can be perplexing at best. For example, what to make of a banker-striped button-down tucked into wide-leg silk trousers with a built-in crimson overskirt? Regardless of hour of day, a delightful out it makes for all. Assoulin's more casual pieces boasted plenty of detail, but in lieu of her favorite crystals or candy buttons, strips of vegan leather allowed for a simpler and earthier aesthetic.
