Sacai Fall 2020 - Runway Review
March 3, 2020

Fashion's wandering urban explorer, Chitose Abe continues to beautifully develop her aesthetic for duality and dimensions in her designs at Sacai. Oft referred to as a hybrid designer, Abe looked far beyond the 3D -- turning to what she described as a "time slash space-time continuum." With the voice of Uma Thurman projecting onto the moon-like surface of the runway, uttering lines from "Gattaca," the movement of design that resulted was stunning. Panels of a dress were re-cut and featured as panels on coats, pants and floor-length trapeze dress (a Sacai hallmark). Elsewhere, a model clad in what appeared to be a modern tuxedo was revealed to be a elegant evening dress when in movement. Military parachute silks were paired with lush velvets; zippers made for dramatic quick changes to separates and pearls and crystals came ready-made on garments. A galactic print made in collaboration with NASA served as the rare print in the collection. It was all a terrific showcase of duality.
