Sportmax Spring 2017 - Runway Review
September 23, 2016
A punchy palette of red, white and blue set the tone for the nautical-flavored outfits in the spring Sportmax show. While summer has come and gone, the design team at Sportmax — owned by Max Mara Group — channeled the life as envisioned by black-and-white photographs of pearl fisherwomen in Japan.
Many of the garments featured porthole details and drawstring details, accessorized by ceramic buckles on leather lace belts. Gathered on the bustier top of a jumpsuit or cinching the waist of palazzo pants, the latter looked chic. The former, meanwhile, looked fresh on optical knits and ruched circles a la graphic pocket accents. All the fabric manipulations resulted in purposeful fabric folds on body-hugging dresses, which came in a palette of brightly patterned cotton version for day and in embroidered satin for night.
