Stella McCartney Spring 2017 - Runway Review
October 3, 2016
To close her show on Monday morning, models surprised the fashion crowd with a flashmob choreographed by Blanca Li. Instead of strutting down the runway in a line to show off all of the looks together, models at Palais Garnier skipped out waving their hands in the air, shimmied, bopped, and danced in circles to electro music. All as Stella McCartney beamed on.
"The spirit of life and love with the ease of summer, today our girls brought a dose of light-hearted fun to the runway," the designer said. "I wanted the message to be love. I wanted it to be soulful, sometimes you have to spell it out.”
It was girl power all the way in the way McCartney conjured the power of positive thinking. On the runway, that translated to tribal meets athletic meets men’s wear meets corsetry—cohesively bonded together with an attitude that was light and approachable.
There was, of course, plenty of fabulous options. Most glaring was the collection of ultrasuede pieces that included a utilitarian jumpsuit. There were also tops with structured and exaggerated sleeves as day dresses with paperbag waists. Washed burlaps and muslins will appeal to the Boho spirit in all of us. And ath-leisure took a performance turn scuba-inspired swimsuits worn as sportswear with pants and shirts.
