Zimmermann Fall 2016 – Runway Review
February 15, 2016
For a house best known for its feminine and exuberant take on frills, ornamentation and intricacies, there was a decidedly fluid relaxation at Zimmermann for fall. Nicky Zimmermann, who runs the Down Under label with her sister, Simone, called the collection “Mirror Mirror,” thus setting in motion a lineup that emphasized shiny fabrics, reflective effects and detailed sparkle. Inspired by India and its colors, the maximalist collection never veered to disco-ball; instead, it harnassed just enough restraint to maintain its cool while even throwing in a few masculine touches. The Eastern influences were most evident in the bomber jackets and wide-legged pants done in rich patterns, offset by very feminine and voluminous babydoll lace dresses that ranged in print from a calla-lily to silvery orbs. This, on top of the brand’s signature caftans chock full of detail and sparkle. All in all, the clothes were excessive. Excessively fun, that is.
